Things To Do with Kids in Austin

Austin, Texas is a great city for the young and young at heart. If you’re looking for things to do with kids in Austin, here is a list of fun (some of these are free!) things to do in the live music capital of the world.

Austin Zoo

Kids can see lions, wolves, monkeys and many other animals at this non-profit rehabilitation center. The Austin Zoo’s goal is to “assist animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education.” There is food to feed deer, llamas, etc., available for purchase as well.

Admission: $8.00 per Child (ages 2-12), $11.00 per Adult

Peter Pan Mini Golf

This Austin classic is a favorite for kids and adults alike. There are two courses, East and West. The West course has Peter Pan and the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex while the East course is rumored to be easier. Bring a cooler with drinks for the kids. No glass is allowed but alcohol is.

Admission: Adults and children 6 and over
One course (18 holes): $7
Both courses (36 holes):   $11

Blazer Tag

Blazer tag has been in Austin for years and is a treasure trove of fun activities. Kids can play laser tag, arcade games, or burn energy on the Sky Trail, a floating ropes course. This is a fun option for a rainy day.

Admission: Prices vary depending on the activity

Thinkery

The Thinkery is Austin’s Children’s Museum. This is a great place for things to do with kids in Austin, especially kids who like to explore and are social. There are several interactive areas for kids to be hands-on. Not only is the Thinkery a great place for kids, but so is the Mueller Area where the Thinkery is located. Across from the Thinkery is a park with a giant playground and a lake with ducks, and there are usually ice cream trucks parked nearby.

Admission varies by date but is usually around $10 for 1 year and up.

Climb Mt. Bonnell

Be a tourist in Austin for a little bit and take your little one on a short hike to one of the best views of the city skyline. Built in the 1930’s, Covert Park on top of Mt. Bonnell has been providing a perfect place to hike, picnic and enjoy everything Austin has to offer.
