“Alright, alright, alright!” Everyone has heard this line before, but do you know which famous movie it’s from or that it was filmed all over Austin? (The answer is “Dazed and Confused”.) Austin actually has a pretty big film scene with new films being produced every year. Here are some places around Austin you can see on the big screen:
The beautiful overlook of Austin has been used in several films including Blood Simple and Slacker. People party there on film and in real life. We highly recommend making the hike up those stairs to take in the view of Austin.
Barton Springs Pool
You would think this location would be used in more films but maybe it’s because it’s too crowded or the water’s too cold. Either way it was used to film scenes in Tree of Life. Maybe it’s a good thing people don’t film there more often. More fun for the residents.
Baker Street Pub and Grill
The iconic film Office Space used this place as a backdrop for two places, the fictional restaurant Chotchkie’s where Jennifer Aniston plays a waitress and an additional fictional place called Flingers. The director did this by decorating half the place in red and the other half in green.
Guero’s Taco Bar
This iconic South Austin Mexican place has been used for a couple films; Death Proof and Chef. Austin has a large and diverse food scene and Guero’s definitely deserves a visit. Come for the tacos, stay for the frozen margaritas.
Dart Bowl
Richard Linklater’s film Boyhood not only portrayed a boy growing up, but Austin as well. The film served as a time capsule for places like Dart Bowl. However, for the most the bowling alley looks the same now as it did a decade ago.
