While searching for fun things to do in Austin or doing an Austin home search, you will find Blues on the Green festival at Zilker Park is a series of musical performances that happens once per month every year from May until August. This festival attracts thousands of individuals, which includes families with children of all ages.
While the music gets underway at 8:00 PM, it’s best to arrive at least one hour beforehand in order to get yourself and/or your family settled. The stage for all of the performances is set up near Lou Neff Point, which is located on the northeast corner of Zilker Park. Parking is extremely limited here, so it’s highly recommended that you either ride a bike, take a bus, or take a taxi to the park.
Here are some tips to make note of regarding what you should bring to the park to help you enjoy all of the music and fun:
*Blankets/lawn chairs to lay/sit on
*Water to drink
*Dogs (they must be on leashes)
While these are completely fine to bring, there are some items that are not acceptable to bring to Zilker Park, which include the following:
*Any glass items
*Alcoholic beverages of any kind
*Weapons (open-carry or concealed-carry)
*Styrofoam
Here are some further tips to make note of:
*Consider arriving to Zilker Park early and taking a dip in Barton Springs Pool to help cool yourself down. Prior to leaving the pool, use the restroom in order to avoid waiting in the long lines at the park’s bathrooms. If you arrive early enough, chances are you may be able to get a close enough spot at the park to enjoy the concert.
*Although alcoholic beverages are prohibited, never try to sneak them in anyway, as police officers will be on hand to conduct random searches.
*Bring a picnic to enjoy, which will save you from having to stand in line at the food vendors. However, if you do choose to purchase food at the park, do this first thing, as the lines will only get longer as the night goes on.
*Bring wipes along with you to help easily clean up any messes, especially if you will have children with you.
The Blues on the Green festival also has a VIP option, which gives you a great reason to hire a sitter and leaves the kids at home. This special option costs $100 and includes two drink tickets, parking, shaded seating, Shady Grove catering, a cash bar option, cooling station, and specially-designated bathrooms. Even better is the fact that a portion of these ticket sales will be donated to a local non-profit organization.
